New this year, visitors to the Old Jail Farmers Market will have the opportunity to step inside a piece of local history. On June 5 and July 3, the Old Jail at 234 East Fulton Street will be open for tours and storytelling beginning at 5 p.m., in conjunction with the weekly market.
The tours, made possible by volunteers from the Canton-Madison County Historical Society, offer a rare chance to explore the historic jail building and its evolving history room. In addition to learning about the building’s past, visitors are encouraged to participate in oral storytelling—sharing family stories, heirlooms, and local history with neighbors and friends.
The Old Jail Farmers Market is held every Thursday in June and July from 4 to 7 p.m., offering local produce, handmade goods, and community engagement in the heart of Canton.
Organizers are also seeking volunteers to help facilitate the oral storytelling area during the June 5 and July 3 events. Those interested can find sign-up links through social media platforms.
