Special to The Canton News
Jacob King, from Canton, a junior biochemistry major at the University of Mississippi, was named one of 15 Stamps Impact Prize winners for spring 2025.
Matching a $100,000 renewable gift from the Stamps family, the university created the competitive award in fall 2023 to enhance undergraduate students’ academic experience by supporting innovative, faculty-mentored endeavors beyond the classroom. Students receive up to $5,000 to support their work.
King is working on a project titled “Quantifying Genetic Diversity in Nematode Feeding Rate.” His faculty mentor is Peter Zee, associate professor of biology.
The support for King and the other enterprising students enriches their academic experience while advancing a variety of outstanding projects, said program director Kenneth Sufka.
