Canton High School has announced the hiring of Dameon Brown as its new head football coach for the 2025–2026 school year, bringing a new era of discipline and determination to a team that narrowly missed a deeper playoff run last season.

Brown, a Canton native, returns home after serving five years as head coach at Callaway High School and three years as an assistant coach at Callaway. His coaching career also includes two years as head coach at Powell Middle School.

“Canton Public School District is proud to announce Mr. Dameon Brown as its new Canton High School Head Football Coach,” said Melissa Word, CPSD athletic director.

Last season, the Tigers fell just one point short in the second round of the playoffs. Brown plans to build on that momentum by implementing his unique coaching style and putting a strong emphasis on strength and conditioning—particularly in the weight room.

Players say they are energized by the new structure and discipline Brown has already introduced to the program.

The Tigers will open their season on the road against longtime rival Velma Jackson High School on Aug. 29. The matchup is expected to draw significant local attention, as both teams look to set the tone early in the 2025 season.

“We’re excited for what’s ahead,” Word said. “Coach Brown’s leadership, work ethic, and connection to the community are already making a difference.”
