The sound of the squeaking sneakers and bouncing balls signals the return of high school basketball in Canton, Mississippi, with both Canton High School and Canton Academy hitting the court for the new season.
Canton High School’s Varsity Boys’ team, the Tigers, have jumped out to a strong start, securing multiple wins in their early non-region matchups, including victories against Yazoo County, Holmes County Central, and Clinton. Their determined play has been noted across the state.
Meanwhile, the Canton Academy Varsity Boys’ team, the Panthers, have faced a tough opening to their schedule with a few losses, including games against Central Hinds Academy and Park Place Christian Academy. Despite the initial challenges, the teams look forward to leveraging the early season games to prepare for the district and league play ahead. Both Canton-area teams are set to continue their schedules into December as they vie for success on the court.
