Canton Academy chess team competes at MAIS Tournament

The Canton Academy chess team recorded a strong performance at the MAIS Chess Tournament on January 8, 2026.

Individual highlights included a third-place tie for Dylan Gilmer, who competed in the fourth- through sixth-grade division, and a fourth-place tie for Kash Toten, who competed in the first- through third-grade division.

Team members included Jackson Bowering, fifth grade; Kate Parker, fifth grade; Brantley Cheatham, third grade; Stock McCarty, third grade; and Luke Parker, second grade.

The team was recognized for its strategy, focus and sportsmanship.
