Read Across America Day was celebrated as young students returned from spring break. Through the Canton Public School District, district officials, parents, teachers, and community partners took the time to stop by and read to students.
Read Across America Day was created by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 and is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. While it is a year-round program, Read Across America Day is celebrated in the month of March to bring new resources and book titles to readers in an effort to diversify their reading. According to the NEA, “Readers who feel included, recognized and a part of the world are engaged readers.”
While Dr. Seuss remains a popular theme for this event, the official theme for 2026 was “Champion Kindness.”
