A new citywide celebration aimed at honoring community excellence will make its debut this summer as the Best of Canton launches its inaugural Weeklong Awards Celebration from Aug. 2–8, 2026.
The event is hosted by the Best of Mississippi Awards in partnership with the City of Canton Board of Aldermen and Mayor Tim Taylor.
Organizers say the weeklong observance is designed to recognize individuals, businesses and organizations whose contributions continue to shape Canton’s growth and sense of community.
The celebration will begin Sunday, Aug. 2, with “Pray Canton,” a community prayer walk scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. around the historic Canton Square. In addition to the opening event, a virtual spotlight series will run throughout the week, highlighting local leaders and groups making a positive impact across the city.
Festivities will continue Friday, Aug. 7, with the Best of Canton Fest, which will feature local vendors, family-friendly activities and opportunities for community engagement.
The week will conclude Saturday, Aug. 8, with the Best of Canton Awards Gala, where honorees will be formally recognized for their achievements and service. Organizers said the location for the gala will be announced at a later date.
According to event leaders, the initiative was created not only to celebrate achievement but also to preserve the city’s legacy and promote unity among residents. Plans call for the celebration to become an annual tradition that showcases those helping to move Canton forward.
Additional details, including nomination timelines, sponsorship opportunities and event updates, are expected to be released in the coming months. Updates are available on Facebook through the Best of Canton page, where the public can also access the Best of Canton app.
