Blues Legend John Primer Receives Mississippi Blues Trail Marker

Visit Mississippi, in partnership with the Mississippi Blues Trail Commission, Madison County, and Visit Canton, hosted a special ceremony honoring acclaimed blues musician John Primer with an official Mississippi Blues Trail marker. The marker recognized Primer’s enduring contributions to the blues and his deep roots in Mississippi’s rich musical heritage.

The celebration began with a program at the North Madison County Community Center, followed by the official unveiling of the marker at its permanent home in Camden Park. The event included remarks from state and local officials, community leaders, and special guests, followed by the unveiling and dedication of the marker.

John Primer, a native of Mississippi, has long been regarded as one of the most influential torchbearers of traditional Chicago blues. Over a celebrated career spanning decades, Primer has performed alongside blues legends, carried forward the authentic sound of Mississippi blues, and earned national and international recognition for his artistry.

“John Primer’s story is a testament to the global impact of Mississippi’s blues legacy,” said Visit Mississippi Director Rochelle Hicks. “Honoring John Primer with a Mississippi Blues Trail marker ensures his contributions will be understood and celebrated for generations to come.”
