Students at Reuben B. Myers CSAS received books and bookmarks before the start of summer break to encourage continued reading throughout the summer months.
School officials said summer reading helps students strengthen vocabulary, improve comprehension skills and maintain academic growth between school years. Research has shown that regular reading during the summer can help students retain skills and prepare for academic success when classes resume in the fall.
Students were encouraged to read independently and share stories with family and friends throughout the summer. School leaders expressed hope that the books and bookmarks will inspire students to make reading a part of their daily routine.
Educators noted that even a few minutes of reading each day can have a positive impact on student learning and help build a lifelong love of reading.
