Canton Public School District educator Cassie Huntley was recognized as a member of the first graduating cohort of the Mathematics Coaching Academy of Mississippi (MCAM), a professional development program designed to strengthen mathematics instruction across the state.

The Mississippi State Board of Education recognized the inaugural class of graduates during a recent board meeting. State Board of Education Chair Matt Miller and State Superintendent of Education Dr. Lance Evans presented certificates to each graduate.

The Mathematics Coaching Academy of Mississippi is part of the Mississippi Department of Education’s Moving Mathematics in Mississippi initiative. The program equips current and aspiring math coaches working in school districts with the same high-quality training provided to state math coaches, with the goal of advancing mathematics achievement statewide.

Following the recognition, Huntley thanked the Canton Public School District administration for supporting her professional growth. She expressed appreciation to Victoria Johnson, Principal Henry Doyle and mentor Gwen Purnell for the opportunity to participate in the program and continue helping develop CPSD scholars.
