After a difficult 2025 season, the Canton Tigers will look to bounce back as they begin their 2026 campaign.

The Tigers finished last season with a 4-6 overall record and went 1-4 in district play. Canton started the year strong, winning three of its first four games, including a 42-6 victory over Murrah and a 26-0 shutout against Forest Hill. The Tigers struggled once district play began, however, losing four of their five district games and missing the playoffs.

Canton showed plenty of potential offensively throughout the season, scoring 284 points across 10 games. One of the biggest questions entering this season will be how the Tigers replace some of last year's production, including leading receiver Jayden Cration. Cration averaged 77.2 receiving yards per game and finished with 11 receiving touchdowns.

There will also be plenty of young talent for Canton to continue developing. Quarterback Jaden Gee was listed as a freshman last season and threw 19 touchdown passes while completing 67.2 percent of his passes. Rodarian Nichols also contributed as a freshman, averaging 37.3 rushing yards per game and scoring three rushing touchdowns.

The Tigers will once again compete in Class 6A Region 2 alongside Callaway, Greenville, Neshoba Central, Ridgeland and Warren Central. Canton will have several games to prepare before beginning region play, opening the season on the road against Pearl on Aug. 21. The Tigers will then face Velma Jackson, Terry, Murrah, Forest Hill and Holmes County Central before beginning region play against Callaway on Oct. 9.

After missing the postseason last year, Canton will look to take a step forward in 2026 and compete for a playoff spot in Region 2.
