The Canton Tigers opened their 2026 season in dominant fashion Friday night with a 56-20 victory over Velma Jackson.
Canton started the new season at home after finishing 4-6 a year ago. The Tigers had no trouble finding the end zone in their first game, scoring 56 points to start the season 1-0.
The victory continues a strong stretch for Canton at home. Dating back to last season, the Tigers have now won four consecutive games on their home field. Canton also improved on last year's matchup against Velma Jackson, when the Tigers escaped with a much closer 35-28 victory.
After scoring 284 points across 10 games last season, the Tigers showed in their first game that the offense could once again be a strength of the team.
Canton will look to carry the momentum into its first road game of the season. The Tigers travel to Terry on Thursday night as they look to improve to 2-0.
