From GED graduate to entrepreneur

From GED graduate to entrepreneur

Special to The Canton News

The Canton Public School District High School Equivalency Program welcomed DeCedric Harvey, a Canton native who now lives in Irving, Texas, where he owns I-55 Trucking Company.

Harvey’s visit was especially meaningful to students because he is also a GED graduate. He shared his personal journey, including the challenges he faced and the determination it took to reach his goals.

Harvey encouraged students to believe in themselves, take advantage of opportunities and always strive to do their best. His message resonated with students, particularly because he had followed a path similar to the one many of them are currently on.

The HSEP program expressed appreciation to Harvey for returning to his hometown and sharing his experiences with students.

“Representation matters,” the program said in a statement. “Sometimes the most powerful motivation comes from someone who has been where you are and can show you where you can go.”

Harvey is also the father of Da’Meeria Harvey, HSEP’s math and science instructor. The program said it appreciates the continued support of families who believe in its mission and give back to the community.
The Canton Public School District HSEP program describes its mission as “Harnessing Students’ Excellence and Potential.”
