The family of the late Jewel Williams recently presented the Jewel Williams Memorial Scholarship to La’Garius Adams, a graduate of Germantown High School, in recognition of his academic accomplishments and commitment to pursuing higher education.
Chiquita Hampton, niece of the late Jewel Williams, presented La’Garius with a $2,500 scholarship on behalf of the Williams family. The scholarship will assist La’Garius as he begins the next chapter of his educational journey at Mississippi College this fall.
La’Garius plans to pursue studies in biology and pre-medical sciences, aspiring to build a career in the medical field. His academic goals and dedication to his future exemplify the qualities the Williams family sought to recognize through this scholarship.
Jewel Williams was a trailblazer, community leader, and strong advocate for education and opportunity. She made history as the first Black woman to serve on Canton’s Board of Aldermen, breaking barriers and opening doors for others who would follow. Her commitment to public service reflected her belief in the importance of community involvement and the power of individuals to make a positive difference.
Williams was remembered as a person who believed in the power of education, the importance of community and the potential of young people to make a difference in the world. Her legacy continues through her family’s commitment to encouraging and supporting the next generation, ensuring that her spirit of service, leadership, generosity and investment in others lives on.
The Jewel Williams Memorial Scholarship was established as a way for the family to honor Williams’ legacy by investing in the education, aspiration, and future success of deserving young people. Through this scholarship, the family continues her legacy of making a positive difference in the lives of others.
