The Canton Garden Club welcomed district garden clubs to Canton for a special celebration marking 90 years of planting roots and beautifying the community.
With support from Canton Tourism, the celebration brought together garden club members and community leaders from across the state. Guests were welcomed by the mayor, the state garden club president and other statewide leaders.
The Canton Garden Club also recognized the contributions of past state Garden Club President Daisy Ann Stewart and her family. Special thanks were extended to Stewart’s son, Johnny Stewart, who provided the venue for the luncheon, and her granddaughter, Cheyenne Stewart, who shared stories about her grandmother and great-grandmother and their contributions to Canton’s beautification efforts.
As part of the celebration, the club unveiled a newly refurbished mural on the side of Mitch Tyner’s restaurant building. The mural was restored by artist Kimberly Schwarzkopf.
The Canton Garden Club has received numerous awards for its work, and visiting guests praised Canton’s cleanliness and colorful appearance, including its plantings and litter-free streets.
Club members expressed their appreciation to everyone who has supported the organization throughout its 90-year history.
“Canton is a small community, but together we have always moved forward, with one neighbor helping another,” the club said.
