What a Way to Start Deer Season

What a Way to Start Deer Season

by Malcolm Dykes

Every deer hunter's dream is to connect on opening morning but in real time seldom does this happen.

But the 2022 season got off with a bang for Conner Putfark as he had his dream come true on opening day last Saturday.

Conner. 18, is a resident of Walthall County where the deer was shot and brother in law to one of my close friends and MHP troopers, M-02 Master Sergeant David Blackwell.

Conner is more like a son to Officer Blackwell as he has lived with the Blackwells now for 10 years and taken under wing by his trooper brother in law.

This nice 8-point buck was his first ever buck taken with his bow and had the deer walk right under his tree stand giving him an excellent opportunity and succeeded with a clean ethical pass through shot.

The deer went about 60 yards before collapsing making this lucky young hunter some kind of proud.

Ironically, the buck had not appeared on the trail cams positioned in and about the property.

The head and rack were brought to me for skull mounting and will be placed on his wall for all time to recapture this epic moment in his pursuit of white tail deer hunting.

Congratulations Conner!

God bless you and God bless America.
